Lights up!

I’m offering a series of online workshops for anyone interested in learning and teaching languages through drama and theatre.

The workshops will be held in English and the examples we work with will mainly be from teaching English as a second or additional language/TEFL but the workshops are suitable for teachers of all languages. Participants will receive a pdf with the workshop script and additional resources after the workshop.

 

Workshop 1

Playing with grammar

  1. Play grammar-related warm-up games,
  2. Experience the stages of a drama grammar lesson
  3. Design a drama-based lesson on a grammar topic of your choice and discuss it with the facilitator and group

Workshop 2

Bags, pockets, suitcases

  1. Experience how to use “packing games” for vocabulary revision, developing fluency and fostering collaboration in your language class.
  2. Play travel-related warm-up games
  3. Explore the motif of “emotional baggage” in a short process drama.

Workshop 3

Poetry: page to stage

  1. Experience how poems can be used as pre-texts in a process drama,
  2. Work on staging short poems:
    1. finding suitable poems
    2. steps to make a poem come alive from choral reading to acting
  3. Playfully approach Shakespeare‘s sonnets (or other “difficult” poetry)

Workshop 4

Just talk – speaking activities for students

If your students are shy or do not have a lot of practice speaking in the target language, this workshop might be for you. We will focus on activities, games, and strategies that help students overcome shyness and maximize student speaking time in the classroom.

This workshops series in spring 2023 is a bit of an experiment to gauge interest and I shall be happy to offer workshops later in the year at other times/days to suit your schedule or timezone constraints.
